The Huntington
The Japanese Garden, including a five-room house built in Japan and shipped to Pasadena in 1904, is one of the attractions at The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens. Over the years, The Oaks of Pasadena has organized many visits to explore the gardens and galleries, and learn from the collections.
City Hall
Pasadena’s City Hall was completed in 1927, combining elements of both Mediterranean Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival style architecture. It represents the City Beautiful movement of the 1920s. Pasadena boasts over 30 historic and landmark districts, featuring everything from historic architectural marvels to exquisite craftsman homes, including several buildings on the 27 acres of property shared with The Oaks of Pasadena.
Pasadena Playhouse
Pasadena, a vibrant center for music and theater, offers year-round performances and events. Vroman’s Bookstore
Vroman’s Bookstore is a significant landmark in Southern California’s history, opening in 1895. By 1915, Vroman’s could count traveling dignitaries, engineers, scientists, and New York book editors as customers. Anticipating their requests, the store carried more than 30,000 titles of fiction and nonfiction. Once the largest bookstore west of the Mississippi, it remains the oldest and largest independent bookstore in the region. Vroman’s is a popular destination, but we also feature two libraries at The Oaks of Pasadena.
Norton Simon Museum
The Norton Simon Museum houses approximately 12,000 objects, including the only painting by Raphael on the West Coast, three portraits by Rembrandt, six outstanding paintings by Van Gogh, over one hundred works by Degas, and a significant collection of Indian and Southeast Asian sculpture spanning over 2,500 years of cultural history. Norton Simon concluded his extraordinary career as an art collector with the purchase of Gustave Courbet’s poetic Peasant Girl with a Scarf from around 1849 on December 22, 1989, and generously bequeathed his priceless collection to all who visit the museum.
